BIZZ JOHNSON
50k - 26.2 - 13.1 - EXPRESS 13.1 & Relay - 10K
Set PRs and qualify for the Boston Marathon on this fast, downhill course!
course description
The Bizz Johnson Trail Marathon and 50K distances begin at Mason Station with an out and back on McCoy Road (You will be bused to the start). After returning to Mason Station, you'll jump onto the Bizz Johnson Trail and travel through scenic Lassen National Forest. The first few miles of the course climb 280 feet through the forest to Westwood Junction, then it’s downhill to the finish at Susanville, with a 1300-foot descent over the final 20 miles. The trail follows the route of the old Fernley and Lassen Branch Line of the Southern Pacific Railroad, built in 1914.
Roughly two-thirds of the way through the race, the trail enters the Susan River Canyon. Here, you’ll pass orange cliffs and cross the river ten times on picturesque wooden railroad bridges. About four miles from the finish, you’ll pass through two former railroad tunnels, 800 feet and 450 feet in length.
There are two different half marathon races. The Half Marathon (& 10 Km) on Saturday starts in Susanville and goes out and back using only the last quarter of the full marathon route. For the Express Half Marathon on Sunday, you will be bused to a remote start where you will do the second half of the full marathon.
NEW IN 2024, is the exciting Express Half Marathon Relay! Leg 1 and 2 runners will be bused to Goumaz Campground with all Express Half Marathon runners. Leg 1 runners will start with the Express Half Marathon. Leg 2 runners will be taken to Devil's Corral at Mile 7 to run the final 6.1 miles to Hobo Camp. The bus will transport Leg 1 runners to the Susanville Historic Train Depot where they can take the shuttle to the finish line at Hobo Camp.

While we will have some cups out on the course at each aid station, we are really relying on our runners to take advantage of the HydraPak Speed Cups provided to them by the race. We will have quick-fill pitchers at our aid stations to help you cruise through easily. We recognze there are runners who are attempting a Boston Qualifying time and every second counts so there will be paper cups to grab and go, but we hope most runners will help us with our goal to keep paper cup use to a minimum.race information
