course description
The Bizz Johnson Trail Marathon and 50K distances begin at 8:00 AM at Mason Station with an out and back on McCoy Road (You will be bused to the start). After returning to Mason Station, you'll jump onto the Bizz Johnson Trail and travel through scenic Lassen National Forest. The first few miles of the course climb 280 feet through the forest to Westwood Junction, then it’s downhill to the finish at Susanville, with a 1300-foot descent over the final 20 miles. The trail follows the route of the old Fernley and Lassen Branch Line of the Southern Pacific Railroad, built in 1914. Roughly two-thirds of the way through the race, the trail enters the Susan River Canyon. Here, you’ll pass orange cliffs and cross the river ten times on picturesque wooden railroad bridges. About four miles from the finish, you’ll pass through two former railroad tunnels, 800 feet and 450 feet in length. The Express Half Marathon starts at at 9:00 AM at Goumaz Campground which is Mile 14 of the full marathon route. After a short up-and-back, the Express Half Marathon flies down the Bizz Johnson to the finish.
Starting at Devil's Corral at 9:00 AM, the new Express 10K does the last 6.2 miles of the full marathon. This course promises to be a fast, fun race.
All Bizz Johnson Races will be held on Sunday. For all four events, you will be bused to a remote start. USATF CERTIFIED FULL MARATHON COURSE (CA18035RS)

RACE DISTANCE: 50K and Marathon1. Bizz Johnson Trail – Mason Station TrailheadLocation on the map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/WVwxHFeFyUMEo5447 Directions from the Historic Train Depot to Mason Station:https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZiiwqfvTcQeyhcLe8 This is the Start of the race. Parking is limited within the trailhead parking area, due to the buses needing to enter and loop around so be prepared to park on McCoy Road before the entrance to the trailhead area. Runners will be heading out McCoy Road for their initial out-and-back (.79 miles out/.79 back for marathoners, and 3.25 miles out/3.25 back for 50K runners). You MAY NOT use McCoy Road to jump ahead of your runner and spectate!! 2. Bizz Johnson Trail at Westwood Junction:Location on the map:https://maps.app.goo.gl/ryz6yhL9h3d7hZP56Driving Directions to Westwood Junction from Mason Station: Because you cannot drive on the Out-and back portion of the 50K on McCoy Road, you will need to backtrack to Mooney Road (Couty Road A21). Turn right on Mooney Road and drive approximately 15 miles to State Route 44. Turn right and drive approximately 7.7 miles to McCoy Road. McCoy is a well-maintained dirt road. Follow McCoy Road to the intersection with the Bizz Johnson Trail. This is approximately Mile 9 of the Marathon and Mile 14 of the 50K.https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZuxcRZCJMydAKjin8
RACE DISTANCE: 50K, Marathon, Express Half Marathon 3. Bizz Johnson Trail at Goumaz Campground:Location on the map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZbdCFPFzjEs9f6Mm7Driving Directions from Westwood Junction to Goumaz Campground: From Westwood Junction, it is an easy drive via Conard Road, and turning onto Korver Road to go to Goumaz Campground. This is just about 6 miles. Conard Road is a decent road but has some washboard. Korver Road is also a good road. Goumaz Campground is Mile 14 for the Marathon and Mile 19 for the 50K. There is an Aid Station here. Please do not park on the Bizz Johnson but continue to the campground entrance to park. https://maps.app.goo.gl/YVaeF12eXXQJ1jjX9 Race Distance: 50K, Marathon, Half Marathon, Express Half, Express 10K 4. Bizz Johnson Trail at Devil’s Corral/Highway 36Location on the map:https://maps.app.goo.gl/ncpKHNVGWirU1g3A8Driving Directions to Devil’s Corral Trailhead from Goumaz Campground:This is Mile 20 for the Marathon and Mile 25 for the 50K. There is an Aid Station here. There are 2 ways to get here. You can either continue on Korver Road until it pops out on Highway 36 and take a left turn, go over the bridge over the Susan River, and then make a right turn into the Devil’s Corral Trailhead OR you can backtrack out Korver Road to Conard Road, take a right turn and go to Highway 44. Turn right and drive to Highway 36, take another right and drive to Devil’s Corral. I prefer the Highway 44 route because it is faster, but the Korver Road route is easy and beautiful and there are a couple of viewing spots on the left side just before Highway 36, including the big trestle bridge (location of trestle bridge https://maps.app.goo.gl/VWkD8cP8FrLhhKRJ9 Highway 44 Route: https://maps.app.goo.gl/BBzPqDPAgguVjUii8Korver Road Route:https://maps.app.goo.gl/cPkmPgnZxCZgde2y6 5.
